Irish Minister for Health and Children to host an informal working dinner for EU Health Ministers

As President of the EU Council of Ministers Micheál Martin TD, Irish Minister for Health and Children will host an informal working dinner for EU Health Ministers on Thursday evening next, February 12th at 7.00pm.

The Meeting will be held at the Palais d´Egmont, Brussels and will also be attended by European Commissioner David Byrne and the Director-General of the World Health Organisation Dr. LEE Jong-wook. This Ministerial dinner will provide an opportunity to discuss public health aspects of the Avian Influenza outbreak in parts of Asia.

On this occasion:

• The Director General of the WHO will provide an epidemiological overview of the virus.
• Measures taken by the European Community to control the spread of avian influenza to the European Union will be discussed.
• Consideration will be given to how best Member States can coordinate their control activities.
