Submissions concerning the ban on packets of cigarettes containing less than 20 cigarettes

Public Health (Tobacco) Acts 2002 and 2004

Mr Seán Power, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, intends commencing section 38 (1) of the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2002.

The effect of this will be that the sale of cigarettes in packs of less than 20 will be prohibited.

Provisionally, the date on which this section is to be commenced is Monday, 2 October 2006. However, the Minister is prepared to consider submissions from interested parties and from members of the public in regard to the commencement date proposed.

Submissions, which should be received no later than 5.00pm on Friday, 4 August 2006, should be forwarded either by post to the Tobacco Control Unit, Department of Health and Children, Hawkins House, Hawkins Street, Dublin 2 or by email to tobaccoactsconsultation@health.irlgov.ie

It should be noted that any submissions received may be accessed under the Freedom of Information Acts.
