| Functions: |
- Lead the development of the new National Positive Ageing Strategy (NPAS)
- Oversee the disestablishment of the National Council on Ageing and Older People, and ensure
the smooth transition of the staff of the Council into the Office for Older People
- Oversee the implementation of policy on elder abuse, in particular by taking forward
recommendations of the review of the 2002 elder abuse policy Protecting our Future.
- Represent the views of the Department of Health and Children on the Elder Abuse National
Implementation Group, and provide the secretariat for the Group
- Work in partnership with the TILDA Consortium to progress the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing
(TILDA), and ensure that satisfactory governance arrangements are in place.
- Participate in the work of the Sheltered Housing Options Group led by D/EHLG, and chair sub-group
to prepare protocol to govern arrangements between care and housing services
- Provide material for replies to Parliamentary Questions and representations
- Provide material for speeches, press releases, Ministerial briefings, etc.
