Parliamentary Affairs

Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provision of support to the Minister, Ministers of State and Secretary General for their attendance at the Committee of Public Accounts, the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Select Committees.
  • Co-ordination of briefing material for officials and Ministers attending Senior Officials Group or Cabinet Committee on Health meetings.
  • Circulation of Government Memos received from other Departments on eCabinet.
  • Updating the Department’s central briefing system
  • To support the effective discharge of Parliamentary Affairs (PQs, Topical Issues, Adjournment Debates, Leader’s Notes, Representations)
  • Liaison and co-ordination with the HSE in relation to the timely provision of information for Parliamentary Questions and other Oireachtas business.
  • Monitoring of the HSE's response times to referred Parliamentary Questions and the compilation of statistical data on same.
  • Line responsibility for staff management in the offices of the Minister, Ministers of State, and Secretary General’s office.
