Responsibilities

Policy Projects:

Integrated Policy for Early Education and Child Care in Ireland; Recreation Policy for over 12s; Policy to advance/support the development of integrated delivery of services for children at local level.

Support, oversight, monitoring and evaluation of policy implementation:

National Play Policy; Youth Homelessness; Children Act, 2001 (co-ordinating cross-departmental aspects); Progress on the National Children’s Strategy / supporting the work of the National Children’s Advisory Council.

Research Projects

  1. National Longitudinal Study of Children in Ireland
  2. State of the Nation Children’s Report [Preparation and publication]
  3. Management and evaluation of the research scholarship; research placement scheme; Office of the Minister for Children's office research programme;
  4. Contributing to the national and international research agenda through participating on or contributing to the work of a range of national and international organisations.

Consultation with / participation of children and young people

  1. Supporting, developing and evaluating Comhairle and Dail na nOg structures and outputs (including publications)
  2. Promoting and supporting children and young people’s participation in policy development and service delivery planning including currently:
    1. Participation guidelines
    2. Supporting young people’s participation in specific projects
    3. Development of Student Councils (research and support pack)
    4. Office of the Minister for Children's Children and Young People’s Forum

Support for or Participation in various Inter-agency Work

e.g. H.S.E., County Development Boards, National Children's Advisory Council, Family Support Agency, and the Curriculum Development Unit
