The Childcare Directorate
Responsibilities
The Childcare Directorate of the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs has responsibility for implementing the National Childcare Strategy 2006 -2010. The strategy aims to further develop the childcare infrastructure to meet the needs of children and their parents for quality early childhood care.
The Childcare Directorate managed the Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme (EOCP) 2000 -2006 and its successor programme the National Childcare Investment Programme (NCIP) 2006 -2010 in conjunction with Pobal.
Under the National Childcare Investment Programme (NCIP) 2006 -2010 the section is responsible for the implementation of childcare programmes:
Community Childcare Subvention Scheme (CCSS)
and from January 2010 it’s successor the Early Childhood Care and Education Policy (ECCE)
This work is done in co-ordination with the 33 City and County Childcare Committees, and the 7 National Voluntary Childcare Organisations
